RECEIVE HEALING TODAY 

Scripture reference: Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)

"He sent His Word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions."

The whole of Psalm 107 is a description of a time in the wilderness for the children of Israel as they journeyed from Egypt to the promised land. During this time in the wilderness, as you will notice in Exodus and especially the book of Numbers, the children of Israel were quite a handful, we today are no different sometimes. If they were not complaining about something, they would complain about something else. Granted there were numerous times God’s anger was kindled against the children of Israel; he always came through and sent them deliverance. What is remarkable as you read through the Word is that this group of people, not including Joshua and Caleb and everyone who were not 20 years or older at the time of the rebellion initiated by the ten spies, were marked to die in the wilderness, but God still provided for them. Deuteronomy 29:5 reminds us that their clothes did not wax old upon them and their shoes did not wax old upon their feet. Deuteronomy 8:4 adds that despite all that walking for days on end, their feet did not swell.  

In addition to provision, just like the verse in our reference scripture shows us that God was also responsible for their health. An example of healing in the wilderness was when after the children started to complain, God sent fiery serpents among the children of Israel that bit them and many of them died during that time (Numbers 21:4-9). After they repented, God gave Moses instruction to put up a bronze serpent up on a pole and anyone who looked on it lived. The glimpse into the ministry of Christ in this scripture can’t be overstated. Jesus Himself quoted this in John 3:14-15. Prior to the incident in Numbers 21, God had already revealed Himself to the Israelites as their Healer (Exodus 15:26). In the wilderness, that was before the cross, all they had to do was look at the bronze serpent and they would be healed. This is no different from how we are supposed to receive healing on this side of the cross. By His stripes you have already been healed, just look on Him. Fix your gaze upon Him. Ignore the fiery serpents’ bite and look to the finished work of calvary! He has already paid the price for your healing. 

Now let’s look at John 1:1 (NKJV) "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

When you put Psalm 107:20 and John 1:1 together, you can clearly see how not only is Jesus the Word of God, but He has been sent by God our Father to be our healing. Not just for healing, but also deliverance from the destructions sickness leaves behind. Be mindful that sickness could be physical, emotional, financial, mental, or spiritual.  

John 5:5-6 from the KJV says, "And a certain man was there, which had in infirmity thirty and eight years." "When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, ’Will thou be made whole?’" Why would Jesus ask him, "Will thou be made whole?"

Have you ever wondered that? Why didn’t He say, "Take up your bed and walk?" Why didn’t He just heal him instantly? Because there have been other circumstances in which Jesus did exactly that, but in this case, Jesus asked this man a question. He asked him, "Will thou be made whole?" I love this because it points to God’s intentions concerning you. All of His thoughts are thoughts of good and not of evil (Jeremiah 29:11). He wants better for you than you want for yourself. Jesus did not ask him if he just wanted to be healed. He asked him, "Will thou be made whole?" That’s an awesome question because what’s the difference?

The difference is a physical healing would have made him whole in his body. What about the other areas of his life? Jesus was concerned about every part of this man. Likewise, God is concerned about every part of you. He’s concerned about every single area of your life. He wants you to be whole. He wants you to be well in every single area. I know another area that is commonly talked about today among people who are saved and not saved is the mind. Jesus not only wants your body to be in alignment with His Word, but He wants your mind to be whole. He wants your finances to be whole. He wants everything that deals with you to be whole. So, my question for you today is, "Will thou be made whole?" Will you allow God to touch every part of your life and make you whole today? He just doesn’t want to heal you; He wants to make you whole.  

1 Peter 2:24 (NKJV) states, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." 

With every stripe Jesus received on His body, He was securing your healing.  

Psalm 103:3 reminds us that God healing all our diseases is one of His benefits. That is one of the benefits you have access to daily as a child of God (Psalm 68:19). 

One thing you have to understand is we are not entitled to healing because of what we do or not do. If you are inclined to think that somehow our actions determine if God is going heal us you are wrong. Healing is a gift from God, it is another act of His mercy towards us (Philippians 2:25-27), remember it is part of the atonement. Just as much as you could not earn His forgiveness for your sins, there is nothing you can do to earn healing. It is a gift, a benefit He has decided to lavish us with because He loves us. Peter states that just as we are now able to live unto righteousness because Jesus bare our sins in His own body, we can live in healing because His stripes guaranteed our healing (1 Peter 2:24). The same way you receive forgiveness of sins is the same way you receive healing. You don’t earn it, neither can you pay for it — you simply receive it. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life — that includes healing! 

God has so convincingly dealt with the sin issue that we can confidently say that there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ. Well, let me remind you of this truth: God has so convincingly dealt with the sickness issue through His stripes that you can confidently walk in healing today.
