🌾 FEATURED ARTICLE: HARVEST — DUE SEASON
Reference Scripture:
Galatians 6:9 (NIV) “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
SEE YOURSELF AS A FARMER
As you read this today, I just want you to picture yourself as a farmer. It is the beginning of the harvest season, and you are standing at the edge of your plantation, and as far as the eye can see, you are either looking at a plantation full of crops ready for a harvest, or there is nothing to harvest. The choice is yours! What do you see?
The verses prior to our reference scripture talk about sowing and reaping and the reality of one reaping what they sow. In other words, if you plant beans, you are going to reap beans. In Genesis we see that everything created only reproduces after its kind. You can't expect to sow corn and have a harvest of beans. That is impossible.
DO NOT BECOME WEARY
With that in mind, now let us examine a few things in this verse.
Let us not become weary in doing good. One thing we have to understand is that when something is pointed out in scripture, we need to pay attention to it. It may seem obvious, but I will mention it anyway, do not become weary in doing good. Sometimes doing good can become wearisome especially when the good is not reciprocated, it is despised and if truth be told, sometimes doing something over and over can just get plain tiresome because you have been doing it for so long.
Every word you will find in the Word of God is very intentional. God would not remind us about not giving up if it wasn’t necessary. When God says don’t give up it is because it is possible to give up. Sometimes it could be that you have lost hope, and sometimes people give up and may not even know it; they got distracted and lost sight of the promise.
FAITH + PATIENCE = PROMISE
Hebrews 6:12 (NIV) says, "we do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised."
Hebrews 6:15 (NIV) says, "and so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised." Without faith, your active belief God’s promise and patience, which is the ability to endure delay calmly and with a good attitude you will not inherit the promises of God. Romans 4:19-21 gives us a blueprint of how Abraham did it! I encourage you to go and read it. In summary: even with the odds against him, he dared not doubt God but rather he was strengthened in his faith and actually gave glory to God without yet seeing the promise because he was fully convinced that what God had promised he was able to do!
“For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” As mentioned above, every living thing produces after its kind. If you do not stop doing good, a harvest of good is due unto you at the proper time, which in other translations is referred to as due season. We know when a woman gets pregnant, the due date is in nine months. The same principle applies to spiritual things. If you do not give up, when it is your due season, there will be a harvest waiting for you.
Another thing mentioned in this verse, is the promise of reaping a harvest from the good we do. Of course, we never do anything with ulterior motives, but there is a reason why there is a promised reward. Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) states: “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) reminds us that “God is a rewarder…” Rewards are not warranted where there is no work. Let me remind you of the obvious: God is a good God and He is a just God, and He sees all you do and will reward you in due season. He is the Lord of the harvest (Matthew 9:38); just be prepared to go out and get that harvest in due season.
DUE SEASON IS REAL, THE HARVEST IS PLENTIFUL
Matthew 9:38 admonishes us to pray that more laborers are sent out into the harvest! One of the conditions of not missing out on the harvest is to not get weary child of God. He that promised is faithful! There is a harvest of souls ready, there’s a harvest of resources and so much more. Wherever you have been sowing, expect a harvest!
